BRIDE PRICE AND THE ENIGMA OF MBAISE... Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

A certain man from Mbaise once had a daughter called Uloaku. He cherished his daughter that he could do anything to make sure she doesn't lacks the basics of life. Nna anyị Akondu was however not strong in his finances. He barely could afford so much as to keep his family fed. He struggled hard to be sure he could, at least, provide for the pride of his household. When he decided that Uloaku must go to the university, it was to all around him a chase for the impossible and a cutthroat decision. However, Nna anyị Akondu received the blisters of his choice but could tell the story of his success alive. Uloaku indeed graduated top of the class and retained the honor of her father Nna anyị Akondu. No sooner than she graduated from the university, a young gentleman came to ask her hand in marriage. Already, the young man was fed replete by the story of the exorbitant price of brides in Mbaise. He nevertheless could exchange anything to have Uloaku as, for him, she was everythi...

ON THE DREAM OF TOLLGATES RETURN: MR. BABATUNDE RAJI FASHOLA SHOULD Resign. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
Babatunde Raji Fashola  It is ridiculous, insensitive, unreasonable and absolutely irresponsible to think of returning Nigeria to the regime of toll gates and toll fees. One, there is hardship in the land already and any policy that can put more pressure on the citizens should be thrown overboard. Secondly, the fuel pump price raised transport fares and the toll fees will increase it the more and this will not be kind to our travelers and especially commercial activities in an economy that is struggling to be on her feet. Thirdly, the roads are already bad and such tolls will further deepen the sufferings of road users who will have to queue up for minutes and hours to pay for the tolls. Fourthly, the existing security situation in Nigeria does not encourage the toll gates. Imagine what is already happening with the check points as the criminals like armed robbers, armed bandits and kidnappers take over the spots when the Army and Police retire for the day. They use th...

TOLL GATES AND TOLL FEES: MISERABLE ENTERPRISE OF MISERABLE EARNERS... Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
This is how lazy people struggle to earn living. They are usually not creative. Very dull in ideas and in thinking; stagnant heads. They live by/on extortion and are always miserable people. They are in different levels and class but they are just the same. Even Plato defined the state as man-writ-large. This simply means that the state is an enlargement of humans. This human being here in this picture is enlarged in the Ministry of Works and Housing led by Babatunde Raji Fashola (BRF). Who doesn't know that this is toll system? By trying to return TOLL GATES AND TOLL Fees, Babatunde Raji Fashola is one of them. They only think of how to exploit the people. If Babatunde Raji Fashola is not in government enjoying the flamboyance from government treasury, he would have been exactly like this helplessly lazy and hopelessly lousy dullard.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION: SPEAKER OF HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES RT. HON. FEMI GBAJABIAMILA DECLARES NIGERIA UNSAFE AND INSECURE. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
The history of Nigerian politics will remember this year thickly. The season when the Lagos boys played at the central government. The year the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives wore a bullet proof underwear to the independence day celebration. This is solipsism taken too far. Instead of making Nigeria safe for all, they now prefer to wear bullet proof underwear? These Lagos boys can be so cowardly anyway. So these guys even prefer to die in the office? So they see what they are doing as a do or die affair? But can someone please tell Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila that the best safety for one single Nigerian is safety for all. If he protects his chest, his head, neck, man triangle and legs are still unprotected in his brand of protection and safety. Nevertheless, all those unprotected areas are not less dangerous than the place he has chosen to protect. He is clearly unsafe even in his safety methodology. Why is Femi Gbajabiamila feeling unsafe? Who is frighteni...

BBNaija REALITY SHOW, THE PHILOSOPHY OF WEALTH AND THE CHALLENGE FOR YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS IN NIGERIA. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
Many will say and have said that BBNaija is useless and not profitable for anything and to anybody. I was also roundly abused by someone who has no understanding of what wealth creation is here. I didn't feel bad about his vituperations as much as I felt horribly stunned by his utter ignorance of the business idea from the program. I didn't watch that show as every other person did. I watched it a few times in passing and paid detailed attention to the business angle of it. I followed the business teachings of the BBNaija and will get back to it for confirmation of my findings. Of course, no two persons see the same thing in the same way. Many people watched the TV Show for different purposes but I wasn't against anybody for his or her passion. Passion is so personal to dabble into. Though we can weigh every action on the scale of morality, but the business morality one such different purview. It may not follow the ethics of ordinary behaviors. I know the difference...

I FAIL IN LOVE AND ROSE FOR WISDOM. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
I have failed many times Much more than all that know me I have fallen countless times All in my bids to rise I'm yet the smallest amongst them Who measure themselves against me I've been bruised, battered, worn out, Tired but never diminished Each fall has increased me A thousand more times and they know Those who pride of their prized accolades Every failure has raised my sight To great remarks that change the world And many others that will impact I have been mocked by many More by those who assess themselves By their temporal  acquisitions I have also got jeers from a lot Who place themselves at the center of perfection They in turn have only been mocked Shamed by my unabashed acceptance Yes! Of my weaknesses My imperfections, my frailties My ignorance and my being just me I've got strength in all It's the zeal to learn, to improve And to return to the battle front Never say die! My ignorance got me wisdom My weaknesses made m...

NIGERIAN TEACHERS AND THE PROBLEMS OF LEARNING IN NIGERIA. By KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
Interestingly, we have always come in contact with a lot from our teachers in Nigeria at various levels of education. Beyond being people to learn from, teachers are supposed to be molders of character. Sometimes, we wonder if the teachers we have come across in our days of learning are really qualified to be called teachers. Yes, teaching profession is a calling (in the parlance of recent Christendom). Teaching is not an all comers thing. But unfortunately in our country, there are no jobs and wrapped in the rate of corruption, people who have nothing to do around the institutions of learning are seen taking the center stage. When teachers become so arrogant and insensitive to the plight of the students and focus only on what they think they are and have achieved in their job, they miss the point and crux of the profession. No wonder teachers are no longer celebrated today. Many students do not wish to meet their teachers anymore or anywhere after school while many wish to m...

THE HOLY ORDER. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
On the 9th September, 2019 I was privileged to worship at the Cathedral of the National Headquarters Annex, Garki Abuja. This was to mark the 94th Anniversary of the Seraph band of the Holy Order. I am strong Seraph; born and bred! Yes, I am! The Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim fondly called the Holy Order is African brand of Christianity. For those who did the scientific study of religion otherwise called Religious Study in the university, they would have read about the Aladura Churches as a course. The Holy Order is at the fulcrum of it. Cherubim and Seraphim has however had many varieties over the years. It is for this reason you see a lot of white garment churches, as usually referred to, and many different forms of worship and practices. Many have turned their spiritualism into occultism but it is not my concern here. The point here is that Cherubim and Seraphim is not one particularly as there are many versions of the sect. Though all of them lay claim ...

ROBERT MUGABE OF THEN RHODESIA AND NOW ZIMBABWE; WHO LIVED A HERO AND DIED A VILLAIN

Image
Robert Mugabe Many people have called me on my opinion about the death of our own Robert Mugabe. For them, it was strange to experience the silence that sounded from me. Their views are that I am and have been a supporter of the black struggles and especially the African identity, liberation and self leadership. There is no doubt about that. I nevertheless refrained from any comment because of the respect for the dead. Even this is African and in tandem with my creed and love for Africa. However, as we die, which is an ineluctable end of all mortals, our legacies are weighed on scales especially those set by us while we lived. Whatever weight gained in that process speaks of us as either great or little, worthy or unworthy, praiseworthy or blame worthy, noble or otherwise. The singsong is that President Robert Mugabe was an African leader. He started his pursuit of an African liberation especially in the then Rhodesia and now Zimbabwe with a confrontational approach against t...

DOUBT AND IMPERFECTION: THERE IS NO JIBRIN OF SUDAN IN ASO ROCK! Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari  In my little life span, I have come to realize that for the sake of imperfection as an intrinsic truism of human nature, we must always live in doubt. It is indeed human enough to be in doubt or to doubt. But for the reality of doubt as a human nature, it is a window for uncertainty and deceit. Because we are imperfect, we also lack certainty and will always doubt. And because we must always doubt, no matter how much we know or think to know anything, we are vulnerable to deceit. It is for this simple fact that a lot of us, even my very self could at some point pause a while to ponder on the declaration of my brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on the claim that the President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has died and what we see as the President is a cloned Jibrin from Sudan. Indeed, I took some time out to ask myself several questions on the possibility of that. At some point, I could see myself agreeing and at some other point, I could see myself withdr...

AT THE CENTER STAGE OF POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS TODAY IN NIGERIA: THE YOUTH QUESTION MOUNTS. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
Since the outpouring of political appointments by the Executives, from the Federal to State governments, an outcry for the position of the youths have been repeatedly heard and read. A lot of the questions are bothering on how the youths are usually abandoned after the elections. Though the hues are on appointments, but any party that won't give the youth opportunity for an elective post will never consider them for appointments. Frankly, the vital unstated point is that except for those who are fed fat by godfathers, no reasonable, vibrant, intelligent, proficient and capable youth will contest for elective position within or through the mega political parties in Nigeria today. Of course, the structural financial demands which are critically the bane of the youth in politics will muzzle the youth. Unfortunately, and as made possible by the situation and trend, the young people who are with them (in the mega political parties) and play their games are immatur...

NEOTERRORISM IN IMO STATE! By KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
MONOPOLY ON LEGITIMATE USE OF VIOLENCE AS A CHARACTERISTIC OF GOVERNMENT: ROCHAS OKOROCHA AND FAMILY ON YET ANOTHER ILLEGALITY It is a truism that before government nay the state, the use of naked power and physical violence was in the hands of all who can and may. This is clearly witnessed in the theories of the social contractarians viz; Thomas Hobbes, John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau. According to Hobbesian rendering in the state of nature, life was brutish nasty, solitary and short. It was war of all against all. This shows how liberalized the use of force or violence was. Mind you, this is in the state of nature. By this time there was no government and no state. Here in the state of nature, it was like wherever and whatever page you can find, you read along. However, at the wake of human social organization, there was need for sanity, orderliness and leadership. At this point, all citizens submitted their whims and caprices, their wills and freewill to the leviatha...

STOP SLEEPING IN THE PARLIAMENT OWELLE ANAYO ROCHAS OKOROCHA: SYCOPHANTS BEWARE! By KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
Yesterday, I posted a picture trending where our dear former Governor of Imo State, Chief Dr. Owelle Anayo Ethelbert Rochas Okorocha, was taking a nice sleep in the hallowed chamber of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. That sounded a ridicule to his allies and flowers. It however was comic relief to a lot who are either indifferent or not his supporters. But to me, it was absolutely annoying. I am compelled to write this clarification because of certain responses I have got especially from the quarters of his (Rochas Okorocha's) goons and lovers. I do not write this to please anyone and not to vilify Mr. Rochas Okorocha himself or his political family. I write this on conviction that at all times, the right things should, at least, be done. Sadly, I will also not fail to mention that Nigerians are the major problem of Nigeria. This simply posits that Nigeria after all is a "nonliving personality". The life in Nigeria is donated by the citizens and when...

DESPAIR OF HONOUR. By KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
KEMKA S. IBEJI DESPAIR OF HONOUR Call it anything else Yes I despair It is on my honour Yes I despair They can wed They're not averse to togetherness They cohabit and inhabit Despair and honour They live in me Oh yes! They do Filled with hope I moved I joined the trudge to liberate The saunter for the good I hoped we could win As we win the tool of service Where are we? Envy came on call Enmity enjoyed her fun Like thieves booties are shared Our identity vanished as humans We're now tribes In tribes the cheating festered The hate blossomed And the dreams died I despair It's of honour Take me out I don't have of mine Our nation cries I don't enjoy the dirge Don't serve me any relish I'm not here for it I'm here for our people They hunger and thirst Their future smiles bleak The cries thunder Thanks to your joy The man or men From the West and North Our nation is shared Along winners and losers Whereve...

I SAW LOVE WITH MY EYES! By KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
KEMKA S. IBEJI  I SAW LOVE WITH MY EYES! I bled through my eyes They call it tears It flowed down joy I saw love with my eyes And now I see storm I was slapped by love And tears gushed down I never knew love had such hands Harshly sweet But they feelings are cool I could cry everlasting Give me more of this slaps That I may never stop crying It forgave my wrongs Paid me kindness for all my wickedness It soothes me when I'm hurt Hurt by my failed bad intents against it It tells me to stab it If only there lies my joy What a being so absurd Is this love? It gives me peace It gives me hope It gives me strength It gives me power It gives me authority It gives me pleasure But I've done all to hurt it It gives more and more good It minds less I saw love with my eyes Now I see blurred It's my sight across tears What a wonder to behold? It now seems I'll be possessed I think by the spirit of love Take me away I've lost all ...

HORRIBLE NIGERIA: THE TALE OF HOUSING AND THE LACE OF CORRUPTION! By KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
King David Estate Abuja Site  Most times I feel like losing my cool and hope on Nigeria. This is usually so as every hope dies with a new apostle. Those whom have sounded saintly turn more Satan when given the opportunity to make corrections. Recently I have wondered why it is very difficult for the poor to have a decent shelter over him or her in Nigeria. This keeps coming to me like a begging question and more with such unavoidable fuss. Why is housing a big challenge in Nigeria despite all the gracious policies and programs by the governments? Here in Nigeria we have Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Federal Staff Loans Board, National Housing  Fund (NHF), Accelerated Mass Housing Development Scheme, Primary Mortgage Institutions (PMIs), Mortgage Refinancing Institution (MRI) and lots more. Even with all these, Nigeria runs huge housing deficit in expanding habit. So instead of things getting better with the policies we are seeing things getting worse. It ...

LAGOS OF OUR TIME (I) Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
KEMKA S. IBEJI  LAGOS OF OUR TIME (I) It's Lagos The land of difference We heard about you Our feelings cried to see you Oh Lagos of our ears How amazing it was That its sounds cares our ears Its thought smiled all day Your stories thundered You were a heaven here Our ears are witnesses From yonder you rang loud Tales on experiences of old as told Time indeed serves understanding All we had was our understanding It was all Lagos of old Good morning Lagos From this time comes truth The truth and our ears They're now in enmity This is our case as we sojourn And now it is; Oh Lagos of our time The roads angrily bite our tyres Chewing with pounding heart The wind walk unkempt Spilling rubbish on all The rains from beneath don't smile They warn; don't eat me! We don't hear our goals Neither our goals either We jam at search Searching for each other We sound, they sound But we're now deaf Our lives are afraid But our le...

A THOUGHT ON PHILOSOPHY OF LAW: THE COMMAND SCHOOL IN THE PAN By KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
KEMKA S. IBEJI The COMMAND SCHOOL in jurisprudence will be so embarrassed to know that Law, as the command of the sovereign when divorced from morality shares no difference with the command of the criminal. This puts a deep cut on the throat of both the sovereign and the subjects. It simply means that even the sovereign is stripped of certainty of stool at any point in time as command can emanate from anywhere. This is the fastest journey back to the state of nature. Even the command of the armed robber blaring  in the banking hall and terrifying victims becomes a law. What then can we say of the terrorists? Are we not saying the same thing? Is law actually worthy of its salt when it doesn't serve morality? What is law without justice? The fear of Great Thinkers across the globe should be heightened by the justice as manufactured in Nigeria and maybe elsewhere. When technical knockout dazes even the puncher, we run on a bizarre adventure. Morality has been enslaved ...

THE EGRETS, HERDS AND HERDSMEN. By KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
KEMKA S. IBEJI  The egret was our friend The herds were our friends The herdsmen were our friends But they were fleeting friends. Like a company, we saw them While the herds roamed around Under the magical control of herders Egrets drove our fancy They had their job I think a very tasking one Taking away the pains Of lice, flies and more They did all at a go We could take joy in our sight This is our village experience As though the schools measured time Our dismissals were greeted by the trio They were all our friends in an accord The egrets gave us white finger nails Yes we sang in plea of that We were sure they were magnanimous Riding on the back of the herds As the herds moved about in freedom The herdsmen returned our jeers Aboki Nnama we chorused chasing them Aboki Nyamiri they returned countlessly We had the fun and they cheered their day What has happened to our friends? Once friends, now dreaded Like Solomon's dead child Were they cha...

Is it a curse to be African? By KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
I read with great dismay the news item from rocklandhousetv an article from one of the heroes of Ebola virus. The story line struck me with such astonishment that I have refused to stop asking myself many questions about Africa and her leadership. Are we really willing and ready to grow Africa beyond the relics of backwardness and ruins? Do our leaders nay politicians understand what sacrifice and dedication mean? Does it really make any sense to do anything good for Africa and Africans? Read the article that follows to examine yourself and the African child, thereafter turn to appraise our leadership. THE LAMENTATION OF A SCORNED HERO By rocklandhousetv “Four years later, African Union has remembered to present me and my colleagues with Medal of Honor for stopping Ebola in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea – Omeni Korobia I dedicate this to Dr Stella A Adedevor and Justina Ejelonu. You guys are the real heroes, you died for us all. Adadevor stopped Sawyer . He ma...
