ON THE DREAM OF TOLLGATES RETURN: MR. BABATUNDE RAJI FASHOLA SHOULD Resign. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

One, there is hardship in the land already and any policy that can put more pressure on the citizens should be thrown overboard.
Secondly, the fuel pump price raised transport fares and the toll fees will increase it the more and this will not be kind to our travelers and especially commercial activities in an economy that is struggling to be on her feet.
Thirdly, the roads are already bad and such tolls will further deepen the sufferings of road users who will have to queue up for minutes and hours to pay for the tolls.
Fourthly, the existing security situation in Nigeria does not encourage the toll gates. Imagine what is already happening with the check points as the criminals like armed robbers, armed bandits and kidnappers take over the spots when the Army and Police retire for the day. They use the opportunity to perfect their heinous activities. The vulnerable condition of our security in Nigeria at the moment does not in any way encourage such policy.
Fifth, it amounts to lack of initiative in the government of the day if all they can do is to bring back a policy that has been totally spent and it's relevance outlived by trends. When the toll gates and toll fees were abolished by the government of President Olusegun Obasanjo, the entire country celebrated it. And to think that somebody will come to resurrect such dead and buried idea at this time in the history of Nigeria is worrisome.
This is a clear indication that the minister (Babatunde Raji Fashola) has no creativity of the minutest form to run the ministry to the best of the country's savour. He is lost in sufficient and efficient ideas and a stranger to current need of the nation. He has shown unabashed lack of the mental acuity, social grasp, political intelligence and welfarist knowhow to manage such sensitive ministry. Fashola is now a celebrated stranger to Nigeria and is therefore worse than all enemies of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration put together. He is a suspect and should be treated as one in the circle of decision makers.
In the last analysis, the toll regime and any such idea runs against the welfare, safety, trust, security, innovativeness, creativity, sensitivity, sensibility tact required of such Ministerial leadership and is obtusely blind to the yearnings of all well meaning Nigerians. The leadership of the Ministry of Works and Housing is an advertisement of shame to this government.
To this extent, Nigerians should simply call for the resignation of Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola as the Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the Ministry Works and Housing.
I am,
KEMKA S. IBEJI
