LAGOS OF OUR TIME (I) Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

LAGOS OF OUR TIME (I)

It's Lagos
The land of difference
We heard about you
Our feelings cried to see you
Oh Lagos of our ears

How amazing it was
That its sounds cares our ears
Its thought smiled all day
Your stories thundered
You were a heaven here
Our ears are witnesses
From yonder you rang loud
Tales on experiences of old as told
Time indeed serves understanding
All we had was our understanding
It was all Lagos of old

Good morning Lagos
From this time comes truth
The truth and our ears
They're now in enmity
This is our case as we sojourn
And now it is;
Oh Lagos of our time

The roads angrily bite our tyres
Chewing with pounding heart
The wind walk unkempt
Spilling rubbish on all
The rains from beneath don't smile
They warn; don't eat me!
We don't hear our goals
Neither our goals either
We jam at search
Searching for each other
We sound, they sound
But we're now deaf

Our lives are afraid
But our leaders live in cheers
They gather for tomorrow
But tomorrow may never come
This they hear but will never know
Life is at best nothing

Let's praise our rulers
They have our peace in their pockets
But they enjoy our worries with us
I'm yet to know
Peace in a closet
What use is it of?
Deep down in their graves
They wield life
Now the use of life is my doubt
The leaders of lagos
They may never come to know
This life, this vain
This I'll cry for
As knowledge fades
Oh Lagos of our time

Dear lagos
Our ears read about you
Our thoughts hungered
Our feelings trudged for you
Our eyes speak something else
Oh Lagos of our time

It's our dream that you return
Return the memories yearned
Return the told unseen
That we once may see
The marriage of truth and tales
Like our fathers
That thus we may cheer on a glass of joy
Oh Lagos of our time
