AS OUR GOVERNMENT BREWS A SELF CONSUMING CATACLYSM, TRUDGES INTO THE STATUS OF ENDANGERED SPECIES Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
KEMKA S. IBEJI  I have had enough time to watch our country Nigeria and her governments in sequence since the renascent democracy in 1999, it is one fact rich in horror to state that the future is so bleak and uncertain with regards to being positive. It will be a judgement of the sick to declare this position a doomsday prophecy. A country that her leadership thinks nothing else but stealing, cheating, embezzlement, graft, illicit riches and unguarded avarice. Nothing is considered about the future. No thought is spared on adequate and focused education. Our cultures are never touched in the light of globalisation and so they are fast going into oblivion. Not even a language in Nigeria is made to be scientific. All we have everywhere are murderers of our value systems and destroyers of moral uprightness. Excellence is on serial death row and capacity is sentenced to infinite abandonment. While we got admitted into the university at the eve and birth of the new millennium, we were ...

THE ANIMAL CALLED IDIOT AND THE MYOPIC MENTAL FACULTY OF OUR LEADERS. Written by Prince MacDonald Enwere

Image
Hedgehog popularly known as Idiot is an awkward looking spiny mammal which belongs to the subfamily of Erinaceinae and the family of Eulipotyphlan. They are mainly found in Europe, Asia, Africa and New Zealand. Idiot or Hedgehog has a common ancestry with Shrew. Like many other first Mammals , they have adapted to a nocturnal way of life. Idiots have a spiny protective feature like that of Porcupines which they use for defense especially during extreme distress.  Their spines are not poisonous like that of Porcupines. One of the distinguishing features of Idiot is that they are born blind. They have a very shallow mentality. This is the main reason why they always cover their faces with their hands, always feeling shy all the times. Their shallow mentality makes them to easily fall prey to their predators.  While other animals strive for survival they always mope about achieving nothing on daily basis.  Incredibly, some human beings are like Idiots with profound intellect...

THE STORY OF OLD MAXWELL OF UMUEGWU Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Slightly aged, he was so reticent and taciturn. He preferred to live in solitude. Scarcely looked up to see your face and overtly disinterested in what your duties and games were all about. He would seem to be unperturbed and very unconcerned about goings on in the community and his environment. We saw him walk down the seaside always with all solemnity and all reverence of calmness, he rarely looked at any faces. The particular wonder was his especial abandonment of all entreaties, pleasantries and cheers. As if he was already telling you to keep your greetings to yourselves; he never responded to any greetings. No matter how loud you greeted, old Maxwell never responded. Not even in the softest nod or wink. Never! I am very sure that many carefree young people will pass him for a deaf or dumb or both. Yes, and they would have allowed him go without bothering why he never responded to their greetings. Surely, they would have taken him for someone impaired in natural speech or some old...

AMAZING BAD gOD Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
It was our thinking to build Yes, to build a heaven on earth He came to us painted as god Yes he came as one earthly one He talked angelic and suitable He looked tough to our fears Our wish was a killer of our fears Our fears will be killed alas It was all dream and we now pray Yes we pray that we get awake Let it be over, leave us now Oh god of the north Dressed by the west Bought by few in the east Hallowed by the south When is your leave? You're mute in times of words You act in one-sided spirit Your skills were our worship You actually have lost them Lost before you came on Lost to age or something else To whom we may not know To where we may never be told But we never knew... Your honesty and firmness Your hate for wrongs Your thirst to deter and  Your gusto to stop the bad Your fame for all things good Can I tell you something? They're all gone from you They're all vanished into nothing You've fertilized hate Fed fat discrimination Nourished wrong favours Served f...

RUSTY LOVE! Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
Just for you... I abhor that we'll be enemies Our times enjoyed some good It wasn't to be perfect though And nothing here is Time grew us apart; yes Isn't it natural with many? It shouldn't become hate How it all started? Think it! I still admire the experience Cherish the companionship Helping mutually It was for a purpose I think What's the reason? Remember our bedtime You confessed the allure You relished the mix I gave my heart and mind Remember we shared Even now the feelings breathe Why the silence? It shouldn't be hate after all What happened is fair Life is of phases  It's a community of time Each time for its due But let's remain friends Never to be enemies One day in my wish We will share a little more It will be to refresh our minds To rub off the rust Just to keep going We're friends forever.

NOISOME BREEZES Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
With so many shades It flows but not like water Not like the flood or stream It's not like fountain either It cooks sweet and sour The sweet-sour and soured sweet Bringing tiny pieces into one Ticking, humming and more It consumes the wind Turning nothing to power It moves the old and little Sometimes with jumps Sometimes with shakes Smiles and face movements Isn't it called dance? What does it do to warriors? Does it give them power? Power to kill or what? The strength to surge When they say morale What about lovers? Why do they employ it? Many works for lovers maybe Call them out yourself It's the food of love they say And for the rituals Worshippers are habitual  And its hold on the spirits? Of good and bad equally? In invocations and exaltations? I don't know what is mystery Tell me about you dear Why do you lift a crowd? Get them from one world to another? How does ecstasy come? Their pains gone Their anger vanished Their anxiety won Where are your hands please? Br...

POMPOUS TRANSMITTER Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
I wonder how it sees But it responds so well What it sees affects it Nights are no barriers It pierces the dark And perceives it object Like a den gun It begins to hum  Moving in chequered styles Lifting garments up Down and up again I think it also hears Every sense serves it The eyes send their service The ears make the wake Touches sets the fire raging The pompous transmitter It works something miracle Bearing message of mystery We think it has no eye But its target is unmistakable Trudging in and out It serves the dish of life It does this with a vomit The vomit that brings life The message of new life And a new generation sets in Does it have a song? But it dances though uniquely Does come with honey But the lady kept moaning The relish go round The bearer is inescapable It sets the venue ablaze Two fighting in joy Sometimes crying ensues But never for a helper out there And most times we hear Even from assumed victim In the amidst of the sweet pains Hit it harder! Tear it out...

THE PICTURES OF HATRED Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
KEMKA S. IBEJI Eats off giant into thin dwarf Diminishes ideas, stunting them Baptizes the wise into foolishness  Blurs greatest seers and blindfolds The sensual is numbed silly Subjecting knowledge to nothing Why possess our leaders? They've all become bad gods What else can they become? The preachers and doers of doom Don't get into our gods You make demons from gods Singing songs of destruction; Day and night even endlessly Vanishing their virtues; Love and temperance, Tolerance and mercy Many more will go May we not live in hades Get not into our homes Don't visit peace of lovers Cast not your mind on ours Oh hatred! You're the weak destroyer The enfeebling doze  Who tears down the mighty Stupefying the brave Calving a fool of the courageous Let not my eyes see thee Let not my wits embrace thine Never let me in to thy tables That I may not thirst at thy door  Let me never be your host Not even now, not in times ahead

WHEN AGAIN AND WHERE? Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
KEMKA S. IBEJI It ceased to live within humans It took a flight to no known where It's all fears and woes about us When again and where? In times past and in history The aged and young gathered In the nights with all the chills There under the trees and shades They told stories of times While the aged kept memories The young kept records No one gave powers to ills When again and where? As little as 6 and 7 We walked miles into swamps Across streams and rivers Tilling in the chills of all silence It was in company of the vegetation Thin voices of birds were our melody We got no fears for the wrongs of now Our peace was just guaranteed But now it's all different and unsafe When again and where? We heard about head hunters We heard of the death of kings Their rituals of heads of virgins The burial in company of maids We saw none but heard all We obeyed the stories for life It's now a reality beyond tales What has gone bad and wrong? Where did we get it wrong? When shall our pe...

IMO STATE GOVERNORSHIP, THE SUPREME COURT AND JUSTICE ON THE PRECIPICE: A SPOTLIGHT ON THE THIN REMEDY Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
KEMKA S. IBEJI When the way to the loo gets multiple, the dangers of accidental discharge increase by larger number. When truth is masked for too long, it merely grows shells and thickens the vigour of the upright. The Imo State matter of the 2019 election has become that proverbial leach that perches tight on the scrotal sack sucking profusely but enjoys the immunity of personal harm. The only thing that will recur in the mind of keen watchers is the question; how long will justice suffer in the hands of its acclaimed oracles in the temple of her service? While I may not be able to give answer to the question above, I will try my hands in the description of the personality of justice. From the point of view of philosophy and especially juridical philosophy, we saw various definitions of justice. Striking among such definitions is the one given by one of the most celebrated sophists; Thrasymacus. He defined justice as the interest of the stronger. Interestingly, this definition has hel...

THE FICKLE BLIND BIRD: NIGERIA. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

This poor blind bird jumps It hops in and out of every bad Landing on spittle and wormwood Holding fast at all darb dirt Feasting on worms of wrongs Gasping helplessly  But none comes to rescue It knows not its own and count A city of all and all negatives Teaching the rejectable Breeding morally reprehensibly Thieves, cheats, robbers, all outlaws Now the abode of murderers The very best of all worsts The citizens are the real pictures Of self hate and self destruction Giving power to their enemies To those who think everything Just once they're against the people They're their real choice Wise in all things wrong Capricious conglomerate Gathering of strangers Lovers of their fractures Worshippers of their shackles Magnifiers of their condemnable Choristers unto their graves Why will this blind bird flirt? Fluttering in filthiest ponds Without shame it smiles Such smiles that curries disdain This fickle blind bird! When shall we sing your praise? Or when do we say goodbye; Good...

NIGERIAN BICAMERALISM AND THE ARGUMENT OF POSSIBLE UNICAMERALISM: THE ISSUE OF COST REDUCTION IN GOVERNANCE. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

The decisions made by the nationalists who birthed independent Nigeria were largely on principles and ideology. Thereafter, it has all been sentiments and emotional. How can people agitate for unicameralism  as against bicameralism. Those who had bite on a little study of primary government in secondary school education will understand the need, merits and advantages of bicameralism over unicameralism. It might, at this point, be necessary to explain what both concepts mean. When we mention unicameralism and bicameralism, we are just talking about the legislature or law making arm of the government of any institution or state. State here also connotes country or nation with sovereignty or quasi sovereignty, as the case may be. By the way, the legislature is that arm of government that is saddled with the responsibility of making laws for the people and the land. Although the judiciary can as well make laws through judicial precedence and the executives by somehow by Executive Order...

COMPARING MR. PETER OBI AND RT. HON. EMEKA IHEDIOH: A LEADERSHIP COMPARISON SERIES. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
Rt. Hon. Ihedioha & Mr. Peter Obi I got interested on this topic while reading comments on a post agitating for a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction ala the popular IGBO PRESIDENCY 2023. Someone was saying that Mr. Peter Obi is more popular than Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha while a few others were of the opinion that Mr. Peter Obi was  more gifted with leadership skills than, far above Emeka Ihedioha but, every Igbo man or woman in politics today and so should be placed at the first rung on the ladder of choice for an Igbo Presidency. This is my argument and line of thoughts about the matter of discourse.  Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha is as popular as Peter Obi. It is a commonplace knowledge that some sections of the country will never vote for Peter Obi even when they are convinced that he is the best. Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha However, Emeka Ihedioha has national prominence having been a former Deputy Speaker and Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives. His consistency in...

GOV. DAVE UMAHI HAS TAKEN THE BULL BY THE HORN. Written by CHIEF CHEKWAS OKORIE

Image
Chief Chekwas Okorie I followed with keen interest the build up to the ultimate decision of Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State to pitch his political tent with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. His statewide consultations and the 7 days ultimatum given to the National Executive Committee  (NEC ) of the PDP to convene its meeting and zone the Party's 2023 Presidential slot to the South East, by the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly were deft political moves with admirable wisdom.  Nobody expected the PDP with its well established disdain for Ndigbo to spare a thought for the Igbo quest for the presidency of Nigeria on its platform. The PDP from its inception has always taken Ndigbo for granted. Upon the expiration of the ultimatum about 5 weeks ago, it became clear that a political dispute between the PDP and its teeming members in the South East has been declared. The implication of this dispute is that the PDP cannot successfully approach any Court to challe...

20TH OF BLOOD! Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
The heavens braced with tears The rocks trembled aimlessly The sky got gloom and shy And fame was set to defame  Then they came with shame Yes! The world will They will honour the young Those who've just done noble They lifted hope and sank fears What is historic even to heroes And Lekki Gate they Toll was the garden The souls of young Nigerians were planted And their blood watered the future of all Those were the heroes and not victims The nation is put into mourning It's by those who ought keep them safe The throne and the vigil men They took the lives of their keepers Casting away lights out of lives It's a harrowing shame! These young people are innocent They prayed for dear country Wearing courage as garments They called for justice They prayed for equality They asked for purity of service Requesting life from their fatherland  But all they got is death What a father kills his own child Even with mouth full of the sound That sound is echoing father  Even as she calls...

THE EDO DYNAMICS AND THE SLIPPERY GAME... Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

It's delusional for the PDP to assume they won Edo State 2020 Governorship Election by the popularity and acceptability of the political party. No! Edo election is a national statement against a strand of politics that works in Lagos and nowhere else. It exposed to more people that Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu is overrated and so numb to the feelings and political pulse of the hoi polloi. Edo is not Lagos is supposed to be a very big information and tool to the APC against 2023. The signals are very easy to interpret. However, unless the PDP engages tacticians, their victory in Edo 2020 is a big bait and fat poison ingested for death in 2023. The details of the Edo election will be a huge misguidance to political neophytes and speculators. It will do so on both camps. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that both the APC and PDP will dissolve into new platforms which will feed on the powers of political leadership redistribution and realignments. The APC will never hand over to the PDP...

AND THE GIANT SERVANT WAS BORN! Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
His Eminence, Elder (Dr.) Isaac Bello  He is the Dean of the National Headquarters Annex Cathedral (NHAC) Abuja and the seat of His Most Eminence. In the jargon of the Holy Order, he is the Elder-in-Charge of this great cathedral. In the words of the father of the golden age of western philosophy - Socrates - "An unexamined life is not worth living" and he went further with the ethical axiom; "Man know thyself". And so it's a time for reexamination and identity reinvisioning. Elder Bello & Board Members  Here is a teacher (Rabbi), a Pastor of the Lord's flock, an Evangelist of repute and of the word,  an Apostle and a General of God's order. A member of the inner circle of the Holy Order, a meek giant, a loving father and a cheering shepherd. He indeed is a quintessential remark of God's mystery of creation, a creature of service, lover of the word and a strong believer of God's arts. He prays for all and especially our home. He leads from...
