HOW THE PROFESSOR OF ENGINEERING IN PRACTICE - ENGR. DAVID NWEZE UMAHI - SOUGHT TO DECEIVE NIGERIANS. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI
Thunders clap, the floods flow, the winds sing but our politicians deceive. This is neither a verse nor a chorus in a music composition but prelude to a chapter in the story of Nigeria in our time. The Minister of Works of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has declared that the first phase of the super coastal highway is 47.4km at the cost of 1.067 Trillion Naira.
He went further to assert that when calculated, it amounts to approximately ₦11 Billion per kilometre. In his elaboration, he claimed that this cost is for such an extranormal road construction project of 6 lanes as against the normal 4 lanes elsewhere. And besides the nature of this, the rightful calculation should be the ₦11 Billion divided by 3 (three) and multiplied by 2 (two) which according to him brings the cost per kilometre to ₦7 Billion.
The craft of deceit in his (the minister's) entire existence may have wrapped him up in such an incredible idea which suggests to him that he can actually confuse over 220 million Nigerians across the globe. Or maybe he has assumed that Nigerians do not have the brains to evaluate his claims. But I think he should quickly be slapped out of his sickening hallucinations back into reality as soon as possible.
Now let's help the fake Professor in Practice Sen. Engr. David Nweze Umahi with a careful mathematical calculation. Please follow us on this journey;
₦1,067,000,000,000 ÷ 47.4km = ₦22,510,548,523.21
What this means is that the Minister actually and mischievously announced half of the cost or, to make him happy by using his preferred parlance "average cost", per km yet scaled it downward to an unknown spiritual ₦7 Billion.
The Minister has been overtly and clearly declared by this intellectual exercise as a fabulous liar or an unworthy Professor in Practice. His certificate lacks character which is a necessary feature of the award. His integrity is in doubt and his knowledge is therefore a bitter threat to our national wellbeing. He's clearly trying to deceive the entire country.
In the first instance, they (the government under which he serves) chose to build a "Super Coastal Highway" and nobody forced them into that. So one wonders why he should avoid his own yardstick and chose to calculate the cost per kilometre using the parameters of ordinary 4 lanes roads.
Again, why did he choose to put up a false calculation by halving the real and actual cost per kilometre? The self acclaimed Professor in Practice of Engineering must have been making his calculations in a bizarre base because it is very obvious he is not using the normal base ten and not even the binary. It's a wonder to fathom by the world, maybe the world newly created by Chief Minister, Professor in Practice, Engr. David Nweze Umahi.
The least wonder is not even supposed to only be how he somersaulted into ₦11 Billion from ₦22 Billion but how he magically dived from ₦11 Billion to ₦7 Billion. The man is clearly a terrible liar who wishes to close the eyes of the country and walk them through fire while sprinkling water on them to let them believe a strange experience. What a man?
This Minister David Umahi and the team of current national political leadership deserve special attention else they will run Nigeria like a hired bicycle rented from an enemy through a proxy. Their intent to obliterate all lines of possible responsibility craving is untenable and unimaginable.
To this end, let us respectfully ask the Minister once again to please correct himself and furnish the Nigerian citizenry with the necessary and requisite information on the cost or average cost per kilometre of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Super Highway. We pray that God Almighty gives him the wisdom to answer correctly this time and not resort to insults, abuses and fights as we experienced or witnessed on Arise TV with him and Rufai Oseni.
