CONSTRUCTION OF ACHINGALI - UDO-NA-OBIZI - UMUNWANWA - UBAKALA ROAD AND THE COMIC POLITICS OF AHIAZU/EZINIHITTE MBAISE FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

When a man is called a warrior, he is expected to have fought and won some wars or even one. When someone is called a leader, he should at least or would have had a group of people he has taken from one point to the other. But whenever you want to be called a human being, though it does not come by want, you must have rationality which enables you to make choice and stand responsible for such choice made. This makes one a human being. In the presence of alternatives, you have rationality to consider and choose from available options and thereafter stand responsible for the choice (good or bad). We also have to understand that responsibility is dualistic by which it encompasses good and bad, praise and blame, commendation and condemnation. So when we talk about being responsible for your choice, it means being ready to receive both praise and blame for your action. Most times our politicians are ready and willing to get only the praise and avoid the blame; that is being irresponsible.

Today we have been blessed with the good news of the Federal Government's approval of Achingali - Udo-na-Obizi - Umunwanwa - Ubakala Road. This is indeed a credit to the government of the APC. It is worthy of mention that even the 16 years of the PDP could not give us this road. I am just being factual and not partisan because I do not belong to any of the two political parties yet. Unfortunately, our people saw and still see the PDP as the party that loves them so much. I agree that most of our people got political appointments in the reigns of the PDP against this present government of the APC which has remained lopsided in giving government appointments at the federal level especially. But these two (2) political parties have chosen different paths and we may keep judging them based on that. However, it is important to note, while we judge, the need of spread of benefits of government to the people. What is the gain in having your brothers and sisters in government positions lining their pockets and not making the goods of governance touch down and get across board? While I would always prefer the meeting of both (spread and equity in appointments and general dividends), I will hold that when both ends come into exclusive competition, I will always support spread of goodies over positions. I also believe that every right thinking person will toe the same line of support.

Now on the issue of the road approval trending today, my only worry is how different political camps are justling and scampering for the glory and praise. First of all, any PDP man or woman who wishes to claim the glory is very deceitful, dishonest and disgusting. It simply did not happen in your government and could not have been facilitated by yours at this time. The reasons are loud enough. So those in the camp of the PDP either in the legislature or executive should please go and have a seat and save themselves of the shame and disgrace.

But for those in the APC within our horizon, let me also tell you that I give more credit to providence than those among us trying to ride on the wings of praises from this happening. You would not have done this and please allow us to thank God and Mr. President. One thing is that none of the people trying to be praised is presently in the position to do this. None of them is a legislator and none of them is in the Federal or National Executive. So how can you achieve such a feat without a known portfolio with such capacity? Maybe if you mentioned the ministers from the concerned areas or states, we may begin to think it is possible. But even the ministers should not expect the praise however.

Why I will want to thank God and not these folks who are angling to unjustly get the praise is that our people believe in goal setting. Mbaise adage holds that "gị tụfụ nkịta akpị, gị ezi ya". This is in line with the usual thing that if you are going out from your house in the morning, you should have a place in mind to go to. Our people say "ejikere amaghị ebe eje wụ ihe ọjọọ". These Our people in the APC trying to take the glory are on the journey of "ejikere amaghị ebe eje" and it will be a bad judgement if we join them on such journey.

Just like the questions of "Constituency Projects" that took the centre stage few days ago, you must, as a legislator, place your Constituency projects in the budget of the country. In doing this, in fairness and devoid of the present business, your Constituency Office must be operational. If your office as such is active with staff from your Constituency, you will first of all know the areas of concern to your constituents. You have to dialogue with them through any mean you think broad enough and agree on such projects. Afterwards, you move out as a representative of your people with their mandate as voted and mandate as in need at hand and confront the fiscal statutes. You will be welcomed home as an "ekwu eme", a doer and an achiever of repute. No warrior fights from the back. Therefore, if anyone wants to take praise or responsibility of any good thing from the government as a government functionary, an associate or ally, you should tell us first what you will do or want to do for us and then proceed to do it. This is if you think you know our problems and do not think it is necessary to consult us by asking us the areas we need to be helped.

To this end, I invite all the good people of Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency, Ndị Imo niile, Ndị Abia and Ndị Igbo who are the beneficiaries of this government performance, to thank God for us and thereafter thank Mr. President Muhammadu Buhari for this. I would have used benevolence instead of performance but I believe that the government just did what they ought to do. It is not a gift though the nature of our country has turned every government normal work as a means of praises or extraordinary acts.

May I therefore say thank you to President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC for this good time.

God bless Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency!

God bless Mbaise Nation!!

God bless Ndị Igbo niile!!!
