AS HOPE ARRIVES, NEVER DESPAIR! A Piece from Legislative pragmatism. - KEMKA SOLOMON IBEJI
AS HOPE ARRIVES, NEVER DESPAIR! A Piece from Legislative pragmatism...
As the morning star rises
And the sunshine slits in
I could imagine tomorrow of our land
Gazing at yonder years
The burdens of past undone
The hip of works lying in wait
I could pray for the wisdom to labour
Whereas we aim at the future
The future lies in the scrolls; the architecture of letters
The learning of the young and infants
The tomorrow personified
How dead the future seems; so silent and frightened
The broken pieces and fallen walls of learning
The null of the teaching class
How else do we hope for the future?
The sight of expectant mothers
A reminder of possible dirge; an epitaph?
Who knows who lives amongst the two?
Mother or foetus?
Our sick rest on faith
What if God keeps silent?
When it is the duty of men
Our hope is faith or death
In the days of abundance
Our fields were green and the pastures smiled
Our palm trees rained reds in fruitfulness
Our tables knew no lack
Good things have run
There destinations are agnostic undeed
And the old, young saunter on hollow stomachs
It hurts or it pains
We learnt to read and write
It is to have our hands busy perhaps busier
And now we walk and not a work
The grown remain wards
And the whelped get fixed on the breasts
When shall freedom come?
When shall independence be?
We ask and no answer seems to come!
Then I raised my hands with hope
My heart is billed to serve
My thirst is to send strength to the weak
And my hunger is to feed the hungry
Therefore have I bowed to the clarion call
That our walls may rise afresh
And have our wards sing the lullaby of hope
That the springs of knowledge smile with charm within the walls
And learning with teaching mix in synchronized appetite
To the cheering of our dear tomorrow
I rise to lift in my hands the cries of happy babies
Happy for good life after nine months rigors
To the joy of all and the omurunwa songs and dances beckon
I rise that our pastures get even greener
Never mind, the youths will join
In willingness they will till
And the oils of riches will splash our land
And the new art will come
The world will have impact from our land
The idles will be no more
Seekers will become creators and givers
I rise that we initiate a redistribution
Fairness will come into it
The poor will leave our communities
And everyone will be on his or her portion doing all that give joy
Let us not sell our future for the porridge of continuous hunger
Let us reject their gifts of slavery
Let us abandon the bandwagon
Let us reason and be led by it
Remember!
Our choices define us
And our definition says all about tomorrow
Our tomorrow will tell on us and our generation to come
What do we leave for posterity?

Bid me lead and I shall
In spirit and in truth
Bid me lead!
See our schools
Experience our health
Eat filled from our farms
Be born into the technology world
And let all hands that idled till
Lives shall be more secure!
And our property will see peace!
It is time and I rise.
