PREDESTINATION Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

They're just the same  They're not our wish They're given to you  They're indescribable  We wake to them Whatever our wish  They just happen Our huge purse  Our fruitless push  They're predestined  Our choice to act Our will not to dare  Our freedom to say Our resolve to silence  They aren't ours at all  Whatever will happen  Whatever won't be  Whatever played out We're made to be so Our will is unfree Our choice is bestowed  Our options are given When are we out of it?  The pains of fate strain  Our wishes will be ours When shall we escape?  That day to flee fate

ON THE RUMOURED ABORTED COUP: ITS POSSIBILITY AND IMPOSSIBILITY IN NIGERIA. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

A few weeks ago Nigerians heard and read of an aborted military takeover in Nigeria. Without verification, the people were already venting their minds. For a few people, it was a good one and for others, it is a bad omen. Many began to imagine what will happen to the gained grounds over the years and how Nigeria will skid back into the military government with its hassles and more. Many theories have been advanced while it's believed that it was totally a Northern officers affair which had no Southern officers' involvement. Many have also said that it is so because the economy bites them more dangerously than the rest of Nigeria especially as their trade had remained politics. Others have argued that it has been the pattern of the North always trying to botch the tenure of every Southern president of Nigeria. For these folks, the North has become impatient as they thought that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would have died just like late President Umar Musa Yar'adua as he wa...

20TH OCTOBER, 2025: THE DAY THAT PRESIDENTIAL INEXPERIENCE BROUGHT RESTIVENESS INTO THE FEDERATION CAPITAL TERRITORY. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

I had always believed that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will make a serious mistake as the president of Nigeria. He and almost 90% of Yoruba people are not versed about Nigerian politics but a lot of people will argue about this. The Yoruba has a developed environment and it's normal that such people don't easily go out. This is not their fault but it's a reality.  Most of them do their primary, secondary and tertiary education within the Yoruba states and never travel out of Yoruba land. Those who are lucky to have experience beyond the Yoruba land within Nigeria are those who undertake the NYSC Scheme outside Southwest. This also usually happens to them when they fail to get posted to their states.  Others who go out of Yoruba land are those who go to London or a few other countries and if you have been close to the Yoruba people, just like some of us who are "Lagos boys", you can predict them.  Just as they're trooping into Abuja now and are busy doing real es...

THE NEW TAX LAW AND ITS EXECUTION FROM JANUARY 2026 AS PROPOSED; THE CONDITIONS FOR FAITHFULNESS AND SUPPORT BY THE NIGERIAN CITIZENS. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

As the government of the APC led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gears up for the new tax law which is presumed to be effective from January 2026, it has become very important that we all look inwards to find out how best to ensure that all citizens are in support of the government, at least, to chart the course of our national prosperity. As we read and hear from the government circles, the government means well for the country and is working hard to ensure that everything gets better for all the citizens in the nearest future. This is why measures are put in place to make sure that sacrifices are made now for tomorrow to be better for all of us including the generations ahead. This is commendable and should be supported by all. It, however, is paramount to establish guides that will help all aspects of the society work together to make sure that the good intentions of the government is supported, sustained and brought to life. For this reason, the following shall be put on the table f...

HOW THE PROFESSOR OF ENGINEERING IN PRACTICE - ENGR. DAVID NWEZE UMAHI - SOUGHT TO DECEIVE NIGERIANS. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
Thunders clap, the floods flow, the winds sing but our politicians deceive. This is neither a verse nor a chorus in a music composition but prelude to a chapter in the story of Nigeria in our time. The Minister of Works of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has declared that the first phase of the super coastal highway is 47.4km at the cost of 1.067 Trillion Naira. He went further to assert that when calculated, it amounts to approximately ₦11 Billion per kilometre. In his elaboration, he claimed that this cost is for such an extranormal road construction project of 6 lanes as against the normal 4 lanes elsewhere. And besides the nature of this, the rightful calculation should be the ₦11 Billion divided by 3 (three) and multiplied by 2 (two) which according to him brings the cost per kilometre to ₦7 Billion. The craft of deceit in his (the minister's) entire existence may have wrapped him up in such an incredible idea which suggests to him that he can actuall...
