THE 9TH NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AND THE WAITING OPPROBRIUM OF THE PROPOSED ANTI HATE SPEECH Bill! By KEMKA S. IBEJI

 I am grateful to God always in all my experiences. And for not being in this 9th National Assembly, I am most grateful God.
To think of someone proposing the so called Anti Hate Speech as a Capital Offense? Offender to die by hanging? And that it (the proposed bill) passed 1st reading in the national assembly is the gravest animality of human experience and of all ages.

We seem to have the most illiterate and irrational Legislature in our national history and the most barbaric and awkward lawmakers in the whole wide world. These folks are not worthy to make intersocial guide for monkeys. And to imagine that they are making laws for Nigeria is most horrifying thinking ever.

I am afraid they don't seem to even know anything about morality and to see them legislating on the moral guide of the entire nation is the most unfortunate happening in historical Nigeria.

Nigeria is bleeding to death on the kill of corruption and especially as perpetrated by these clowns of a legislature and other government actors in other arms. Our roads are death traps, our hospitals are worse than mortuaries and grave paths, our schools are sty, our security is null as terrorism, kidnapping, armed banditry, assassination, rape, incest, open and brazen killing of citizens and all unimaginable crimes are the order of the day. These comic tragedy actors of a legislature are at home with all these crass and ubiquitous social vices but unfortunately much concerned with people airing their views on public matters.

When the Greek Philosopher Socrates admonished "man know thyself", it was simply a reiteration of the philosophical cliché that "an unexamined life is not worth living". These folks in the national assembly today need self  reexamination of themselves before it is too late. They should quickly realize that power belongs to the people. They need also to understand that when they make laws of humans as that best for animals, men and women may also behave as animals.

Knowledge therefore is unarguably very important in all we do hence the Socratic submission that "knowledge is virtue". When these legislators realize the truest nature of power as the most transient of all realities, they will not fail to understand the severity of their oncoming mistake in the proposed nefarious and inimical bill. They will not fail to know that they will return to the plane of common citizens when they will be recipients of their deeds.

I therefore lend the national assembly my knowledge of the weighing of moral actions. Such principle that is characterized with universalizability and referred to as the "Golden Mean". It reads that we perform only such functions and acts that we may always approve as a universal law. By this it simply means that we should always ensure that our actions are such that we will be happy to receive from others. In other words, will this national assembly members be able to live in a society where their utterances that offend anyone else should lead to their death and especially by hanging? If therefore we are to universalize this their proposed bill, they should also understand that it already a Hate Speech to the entire citizenry of Nigeria and so all of them are convicts of their own proposal.

Nevertheless, what scale will the nation use to measure Hate Speech in a country so divided by ethnicity, religion and plurality of beliefs? Whose yardstick will be adopted as a denominator for all? How can we arrive at such scale considering our multicultural gait, structure and posture? If the country has been unable to handle the common offshoots of the mismanagement of our patrimony, how can we manage the effects of this advanced issue of hate speech? There are many questions not asked and many more that will never be asked and all can never be answered.

In conclusion therefore, the said proposal of Anti Hate Speech Bill is absolutely condemnable, socially an aberration, mentally debasing, logically repulsive, morally immoral and ethically unacceptable. I therefore call on the very responsible, reasonable and respectable members of the national assembly to dissociate and distance themselves from the silliest social guide in the history of mankind in the name of Anti Hate Speech Bill as proposed.
