MANHOOD IS A SOLITUDE Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
Howbeit!  We're lonely in the crowd No mistakes  That's being a man or so We cry in silence  Our burdens aren't open None believes us though Being a man, nevertheless  Our failures are borne Burnt into our fabrics By ourselves, none else Don't shout, don't grieve  It's the way of man Everyone is our problem  We're a problem to none We live for all, none for us We do this forever  Till we kiss the dust This is a man Oh solitude!  Our friend all seasons Whence will you die That we gain freedom  The separation from you  Manhood wedded solitude But never to divorce

ELEGY FOR THE GOOD Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Wonders, grief, shock, cries  Fears, carefreeness, dangers Hate, dislikes, bitterness, strife  Envy, distrust, lies, inordinate wants Injustice, betrayal, theft, murder  Our world is in disarray  No one wants to do it right  Everybody thinks negatively  Our values are on holidays  Or they're dead, burnt and buried  Parents' upbringing is questionable  Children's characters are damaged  The good's bad and the bad's good  The good's evil and the evil's good  We've lost count of the good  We may never know it if we see it The good is far gone from here  No one holds them fast anymore  Truth, honesty, fairness, respect  Honour, faithfulness, trust Sacrifice, discipline, courage  Sincerity, justice, perseverance  Love, integrity, values  Here's a lament for the good  It's dead today in our land  The world should be mourning  The death of values is a danger Danger to all beings and hu...

Can a machine have mind?  Can a piece of inorganic be? Can any other matter reason?  Can still beings be intelligent? This science, this art  Set out to invent humans No more mankind but man The die is tossed, still world  Mankind has a competitor  Not with the living beings  But with machines thinking  Procuring lsrge information  Processing them even faster Inferring new knowledge  Heeding the laws of thought  Nesting the rules of patterns  Here we are!  We're out to creat persons They'll think, reason and infer Yesterday is far gone Today is already too late Tomorrow is here with us Tomorrow is artificial intelligence What's next than bizarre?

TWISTED NIGER AREA Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Chiaso earned his pay today Sickly thin and frail pay it is It's a round of 30 days work His bank behind smiled Yes! His back pocket ate He's right on the bus homeward  Oh poor Chaiso! Sat beside him is Ole Ole takes what's not his He did what he does  Chiaso is his latest victim  Chiaso is now empty Emptied by Ole as Ole  Service pay time called The ferryman beckoned  It was for Chiaso to pay He ran to his bank behind  Chiaso touched emptiness Bewildered, his joy vanished  Ye man! Neighbours chorused  He was scorned visibly  Poor Chiaso is lost His innocence and sin mixed  He's apparently blue faced  Angel Ole quickly helped  Ole paid off Chiaso's debt Neither pity nor for charity Ole bought fame to bury suspicion Ole was drenched in praises  Prayers for more of his kind echoed  Ole's victim joined, worshipping him Like Ole like these folks Folks that masses follow They lead them very Olely  Oles of Niger Area L...

POISONED VICTORY Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Image
Let's not take in one bullet  Let's fight safe and stay alive  Only then is our victory real We look up the sky to know  To know what's far away there  We lose sight of here and fall Our eyes saw the reality  But our bodies are in the pits  The essence of that perception? On our hunt for wealth We hurt our hearts, minds We stay away from our bodies  We abandon ourselves to ills  When the wealth's in grips  We're eaten by sicknesses  But here's wealth and more But the body, soul are gone  Get me my victory  Don't let it get bad Get me sound victory  Please don't poison it Let not our prize be funeral  Give me that victory  Victory without poison.
