WHY ALL MUSLIMS IN NIGERIA SHOULD REJECT THE TINUBU-SHETTIMA (MUSLIM-MUSLIM) PRESIDENTIAL TICKET Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI


“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both.” [Quran, 4:135]

“And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance. That you not transgress the balance. And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance.” [Quran, 55:7-9]

Dear Muslim brothers and sisters, the argument against the TINUBU-SHETTIMA ticket as Muslim-Muslim ticket is in no way an argument against Islam. It is rather an argument for justice, moderation, fairness and balance which Islam also upholds. The pairing of Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sen. Kashim Shettima on the APC presidential ticket is unjust, unfair, inordinate, irresponsible and insensitive.

Teachings of Islam holds that every Muslim should 'Stand up firmly for justice, as a witness to God, even as against yourselves or your parents or your kin, and whether it be against rich or poor. ' Surah 4:135 Meaning justice is for all. Everyone should put justice first, even before their family.

This is exactly what the argument against Muslim-Muslim ticket of TINUBU-SHETTIMA is. It is based on the ideals of Islam and Christianity. It is based on sound moral judgment. It is hinged on justice and the right actions.

Please disregard anyone who is trying to make a political profit from it by turning the argument upside down. Do not allow them to destroy our unity and Nigeria. Atiku Abubakar is a Muslim and Sen. Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed is also a Muslim. Nobody is saying anything against their various tickets because, at least, they are balanced. The only argument against Atiku Abubakar is on zoning and even the ticket of TINUBU-SHETTIMA is faulty as well as that of Atiku Abubakar because Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu is wrong to also contest the Presidential Election in 2023 after President Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have all had 8 years each as president and Vice president from the South-West.

Justice or 'adl literally means placing things in their rightful place and also affording equal treatment to others. In other words, Islam has two simple propositions for a just society: (i) place things in their rightful position and (ii) give everyone their rightful due.

The Prophet was instructed, “Say [O Muhammad], 'My Lord has commanded justice…'” (Quran 8:29). In the Islamic worldview, justice is the most important value. Every action that a person does can be framed as an act of justice or of injustice.

Justice is the goal of Islamic law, as it is the goal for Islamic society in general. In both the Quran and Hadith, justice requires the offender to take personal responsibility for his or her actions and in most of the cases compensate the harms and losses of the victim. This implies that all the Muslims in Nigeria should rise up against the TINUBU-SHETTIMA ticket as a way of upholding Islamic tenets of justice. The APC Tinubu-Shettima ticket is unjust and so it is islamically right at the moment that they take responsibility for their wrong actions. Taking responsibility for their wrong actions here means that all Muslims in Nigeria must reject them.

Again, it is also islamically just and valid that all Muslims in Nigeria should rise up now to condemn the APC and the Tinubu-Shettima ticket. Also, the offenders being the APC, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sen. Kashim Shettima should be made to understand that they have offended the Islamic laws and should be punished for it.

Therefore, it is an obligation in full consonance with the dictates of Islam that all Muslims in Nigeria should abide by in wholeheartedly and unreservedly reject the APC choice of the unjust Tinubu-Shettima presidential ticket. All Muslims who honour Islam and follow the instructions enshrined in the Koran and Hadith on justice must vote against the APC and Tinubu-Shettima ticket in the 2023 Presidential Election.

Let's therefore rise together in defence of justice, fairness and balance in order to protect, sustain, procure and preserve the peace and unity of Nigeria in 2023 and beyond.
