THE CRIME OF SELF-PRESERVATION Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

Koi! Koi!! Koi!!!

Hello justice in Nigeria

I am Sunday Jackson

As I farm to provide for my family

This herder assailed me

He destroys our farms, kills us

He desired to kill me with knife

I had no weapon and nothing

Seeing death, I tried to preserve life

He ceased my freedom to escape

He died trying to take my life

He died of his own weapon

I merely defended myself

My assailant died, he is dead

Dear Sunday Jackson

You should have let him go

Or you run away and die next time

Or let him kill you like your kins

You shall be hanged till you die

This is justice in our land

Our land is Nigeria

Kpom! Kpom!! Kpom!!!

Justices of Supreme Court

May my life be spared

I'm not a murderer

It was in the course of self defense

I've never killed, I'd never kill

He won't let me escape

He died that I refused suicide

He died trying to kill me

Dear Sunday Jackson

Death is fundamental right

Self preservation is a crime

Till heavens fall, this is just

You shall be hanged till you die

This is justice in Nigeria

Oh justice!

Where have you gone to?

Our judges have gone mad

Your lordships lord for death

It's wrong to be right, right to be wrong

Your temple is desecrated

Return now to cleanse our land

Let our land know peace again

This poem is a protest against the Nigerian judiciary's act of injustice against Sunday Jackson who is a Christian farmer in Adamawa State of Nigeria. While farming in his farm, Sunday was attacked by the killer herder who tried to kill him. In a fierce fight to preserve his life, Sunday Jackson overpowered his villain and was able to kill him by herder's own weapon 🔪. But the Nigerian judiciary has sentenced Sunday Jackson to die by hanging for self preservation.
