ON ASUU AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT: THE GOVERNMENT IS THE CULPRIT PLEASE. Written by KEMKA S. IBEJI

I do not blame the unclear intentioned ASUU in any way. This is not to exonerate them.

I do not know what ASUU wants, I do not understand the depth of their cleanliness and I do not have so much blame for them, if any.

ASUU members sell admissions, they publish unresearched pieces in the name of handouts, they sell the empty handouts to students, they force their students to buy the books, they extort students, they sell results, they sleep with their students for marks, and much more. The university administration does not account to anyone of the school fees paid by students, they do not account to anyone for the several fees and bills paid by the students, most universities have no accommodation for the students, and the universities net in billions of Naira from the fees and bills paid by the students.

Every now and then, we hear and read university Vice Chancellors being in EFCC cells for financial crimes running into billions and they end up walking home and nothing happens.

ASUU is armtwisting the Federal Government, the students and parents every time with strikes and paralysing the academic status of the country.

But let me tell you this position and I hold it strongly; I do not blame ASUU. I also will encourage all Nigerians not to blame ASUU for any of their good and/or bad behaviours or actions. Why?

Blame our lazy, unreasonable, insensitive, uneducated and senseless government!

If our government is useful and reasonable by any strick, what the universities already get from the students, if appropriately utilised, will solve 50% of the problems raised by ASUU. So do you now blame ASUU for the irresponsibility of the government?

The government should supervise the schools from nursery to university. But what is happening? The government is lazy and disinterested. Our government do not have any regard for education. After all, do our leaders owe anything to the schools? Do you need to be educated in Nigeria to be anything? No wonder, "education na scam"!

Has the government asked the university administrators what they get from the students and how they utilise them? What responsibilities does our government owe both the students and the teachers? Are they performing any of such duties by any standard?

Has the government audited the account of any of the universities in Nigeria? Who are the lecturers and how are they engaged? What is their code of ethics?

The bottom line is that the government has failed and for their foolishness, the few evil people in our educational sector have had a heyday. ASUU, good or bad, have the latitude to do whatever they want and I assure you that they will get home fine and safe with it. It all goes well for them. They are working for a useless, insensitive, foolish, uneducated, unintelligent, irresponsible, ignorant, unworthy, corrupt, morally bankrupt, and hopeless employer. Who will do better than ASUU in this condition please?

Blame the Federal Government of Nigeria and not the Association of Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for strikes and sundry decays.
