DEAR PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI! By KEMKA S. IBEJI
DEAR PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI!
Security, Education, Health, Power, Economy and especially Exchange, Petroleum or Crude oil, Subsidy, Refineries, Automobiles, Government Contracts, Employment, Federal Mortgage (FMBN) and National Housing Insurance Scheme, Pension Administration, Banking, INEC and Elections in Nigeria and a few others are areas we feel were ravaged by corruption and we waved and drafted you into power on your offer to solve the problems hinted.
We thought that the Boko Haram issue would have stopped by your introduction into Aso Rock Villa on May 29th, 2015. But instead of that happening, we got more burdened with an addition of more purveyors of insecurity. Now beyond Boko Haram we have the dreaded killer herdsmen in the parlance of your Lai Mohamed. The terrorists have enlarged their coast in your watch Sir. We were expecting that your entry would announce sanity in our security network, diminish corruption there and grant us sound security to flush out the menace of Boko Haram terrorists and the militant flanks. What has happened to you Mr. President?
Our education lost quality and has given rise to flight of resources outside of the borders of Nigeria. Unqualified teachers from the Primary schools to Secondary schools and then to the Higher institutions of learning. The bet hands roam the streets looking for what to do. It is either you know somebody or you are left out. It is no more a matter of fetching the best brains to come and impart knowledge. Now teachers rape students, sell marks for sex, buy and exchange money for marks, sell substandard and poorly researched educational material to students, cut all corners to enrich themselves to the detriment of the educational sector. Mr. President Sir, you seem to be faking a blind eye to all this but that's why we hired you to the throne of our presidency. What is wrong?
Do we really need to talk about our health sector? Of course you should know more than anyone around us. You visit excess of our national boundaries at every frequency. For you we have increased the cost on Nigeria from Medical tourism and you could account for much more than we can understand. Our hospitals cannot take care of your citizenry. We run the dangers of organ theft and the like in India and other parts of the world. Your citizens are used for experiments in many countries of the world today yet you sit happily in Aso Rock knowing that it was corruption ghat has collapsed our National health system. It is also for the war against such corruption that we prayed you emerge. What are you doing to stop your incessant journey to the land of strangers for medical assistance? When will your dear compatriots cease joining you on the same foray? What about those who cannot and may never have the opportunity to join you yonder? Is there any hope for them? Do we wait on you or do we start once again our prayers for a national helper dear President Muhammadu Buhari?
The government we condemned for corruption and brought you to save us was generating 7,000 Magewatts of electricity and we cried that it could have been better with you. You have been here now for about 4 years Mr. President and it is even getting worse. Why Mr. President? What about power? Do we still have any hope for anything good? How do you feel about all this Mr. President?
Our economy has nosedived and everything else has gone worse. The Naira exchanges now with the dollar like the dead against the living. Our toiling and working for months now amount to few minutes work in the rest of the world and you don't seem to be perturbed. That 100usd which is got for few hours job in the US is more than one full month salary even in your recent salaries uplift is most saddening. And Mr. President it feels you don't really bother.
Our petroleum is valueless in Nigeria under your leadership Mr. President and please don't point at any other administration because I'm talking to you and your tenure as our president. Why must we export crude oil at less value and import refined products at very exorbitant amount thereby humiliating our God-given gift of natural resources? Why must we export crude oil and close the opportunity of the millions of jobs it should be creating for our teeming graduates who are roaming around looking for jobs? Why do we condemn our youths to no opportunities by showing them crime as only means of survival? The crude oil industry would have taken all our engineers and science graduates off unemployed list and expand into the rest areas. We lose all that opportunity to exporting our crude oil and importing poverty and high exchange rate. We import devaluation of the Naira and its attendant issues. What is your practical concern on making life better from our crude oil? Do you still prefer the corruption that has kept us where we are today? How satisfied are you with all this impropriety in the petroleum sector of our economy Mr. Muhammadu Buhari?
When will you build us the refineries you promised us? When will you stop killing our economy with the subsidy? When will you stop the corruption we brought you in to fight? Why are you now part of the corruption yourself Mr. President? We gladly gave you the subsidy as soon as you came into power in 2015. You promised us of refineries and much more from that. We forfeited our comfort from #87 per litre of fuel and allowed you take away the subsidy which made us groin under the pains of the expensive fuel pump price of the current #145 per litre. We did this with the hope on your promise that when our refineries would have come in your first 4 years in office, we will be buying fuel at #40 per litre. Did you just deceive us President Muhammadu Buhari? Was that some form of 419 or what? Are you now the grand master of the Yahoo Yahoo boys? You need convince Nigerians that you are the man we voted for and dethroned the incumbent of that time. You have a lot of explanations for your citizens Mr. President.
President Muhammadu Buhari, it is time for you to wake up to your responsibility and brace up for the challenge. Do what you told to earn your peace in the annals of Nigerian history. Save our people from insecurity of all kinds, save our education from rot and damage, save our economy, give us better exchange rate through balance of trade, return Nigeria to automobile assembling nation that we no longer need to import cars into Nigeria, sanitize the public and civil service and most of all we need the crux of government which is safety of our dear lives and property.
Thank you Sir.
